Apartment Maintenance Technician
This training is designed as an introduction for new maintenance professionals or as a refresher for veteran employees, to give these professionals the knowledge and tools necessary to work effectively in the multi-family and apartment housing industry.
Course material is structured to the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians exam (CAMT). The CAMT program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the course is designed by the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI).
This 96-hour training is comprised of classroom, online, and hands-on lessons and assignments about the maintenance and repair of:
- Interior and Exterior structures
- Electrical Systems
- Plumbing
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
- Appliances
As well as safety, emergencies, time and project management, teamwork, and much more.
Students have the opportunity to take the CAMT exam at the end of the course. The exam is administered by GTCC. The exam cost is included in the cost of the textbook. The schedule will be announced during class. Visit https://www.naahq.org/education-careers/credentials/camt.
Successful completion of this course fulfills one of the requirements for the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT).

Students MUST purchase books before the first day of class.
The required book is: "CAMT Onebook," National Apartment Association Education Institute. About $488 at Greensboro GTCC Bookstore.
Students who successfully complete the Apartment Maintenance Technician will receive an Award of Completion.
For successful completion, students:
- Must be in class 90% of class hours
- Must achieve 80% on coursework
If you enter after the second day of class, you will not receive credit for taking the class. Additionally, time absent will be counted against you. Students can only miss 10 hours of the class total and pass the class.
The college will make a 100% refund of registration fees if you officially withdraw from class before the first meeting. Also if the class is canceled or full, GTCC will make a full refund.
The college will refund 75% of the registration fee (of tuition only) if you officially withdraw from the class on the first day of class or before the class reaches the census date. The census date varies from class to class. Non-attendance is not a basis for a refund.
